Episode 152 — Post Falls Becomes First City In Idaho To Partner With ICE?

And that's [0:15:51] going to bring us to our first story today, which is about what's going on here in Post Falls, Idaho. [0:15:58] And the big news, of course, is that our new mayor, Randy Westland, has entered into a partnership with Immigration and Customs Enforcement. [0:16:14] This is from Mayor Westland. [0:16:16] He has pinned tweet. [0:16:18] He says, I am proud to be the first mayor in Idaho to authorize the 287G partnership with ICE. [0:16:27] This gives us more tools to address criminal activity tied to illegal immigration. [0:16:32] Our nation has never faced a greater crisis, but we will prevail. [0:16:37] We will have our country back. [0:16:40] And so, of course, that comes from Mayor Randy Westland. [0:16:43] I do believe that he, yep, here's the follow-up post with the full press release. [0:16:49] I think also I've got a copy of it right here on their website. [0:16:54] So I'll read this to you. [0:16:57] Post Falls, Idaho. The city of Post Falls is proud to announce that the Post Falls Police Department has entered into a formal agreement with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement under 287G, the Immigration Nationality Act. [0:17:11] Post Falls is the first city municipality in Idaho to join the 287G program. [0:17:18] The partnership will strengthen local efforts to identify, process, and remove criminal [0:17:23] aliens from the community, keeping Post Falls safe for all residents. [0:17:29] The 287G program allows trained law enforcement officers to perform specific immigration enforcement [0:17:35] functions under the supervision and direction of ICE. [0:17:39] This includes identifying removable non-citizens with criminal charges or convictions during routine operations, serving administrative warrants in jails, and facilitating the transfer of individuals to federal custody. [0:17:55] Quote, public safety is our top priority in Post Falls, unquote, says new police chief Mark Brantle, Post Falls Police Department. [0:18:06] Quote, by participating in the 287G program, our officers will gain additional tools to address serious criminal activity linked to immigration violations. [0:18:16] This agreement enables us to work more effectively with federal partners to remove dangerous individuals from our community while continuing to focus on community-oriented policing. [0:18:27] Key benefits of the program for Post Falls include, [0:18:31] 1. Enhanced collaboration with ICE to target individuals who pose a threat to community safety. [0:18:36] 2. Training for select officers in immigration law and procedures provided at no additional cost to the city beyond standard participation. [0:18:46] Three, improved ability to process removable aliens in custody, reducing burdens on local resources, [0:18:53] and four, contribution to broader state and national efforts to uphold immigration laws and protect Idaho communities. [0:19:02] Post Falls Mayor Randy Westland said, quote, [0:19:05] We are proud to continue our partnership with federal law enforcement to keep our city safe, [0:19:10] and we reiterate our commitment to enforcing the law. [0:19:14] This partnership advances these goals and strengthens our community. [0:19:18] The city of Post Falls remains committed to transparent and lawful policing that respects the rights of all individuals while prioritizing the removal of criminal threats. [0:19:28] This partnership aligns with Idaho's ongoing initiatives to support federal immigration enforcement and to ensure that local law enforcement can effectively address public safety concerns. [0:19:38] If you witness a crime ongoing, call 911, blah, blah, blah, yada, yada, yada. [0:19:43] But there we go. [0:19:46] To all the people bitching that voting doesn't matter, elections don't matter. [0:19:52] And you'll remember there was an episode back in this show's former life where I apparently lost it with my co-host, former co-host. [0:20:03] Well, I was right. [0:20:05] They were wrong. [0:20:15] In Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, where all of the based people didn't vote, you got a pro-gay mayor that is a Zionist, that attends Candlelight Church, that is involved with corruption, that also includes the Southern Poverty Law Center and Anti-Defamation League. [0:20:34] strategic partnerships with the city of Coeur d'Alene and the SPLC. That's what's been going [0:20:39] on in Coeur d'Alene for like the past 40 years. And your mayor over there sucks ass. He's horrible. [0:20:45] His kids are gay. He's pro abortion. He signed the petition to allow abortion in the state of [0:20:54] Idaho. He voted in favor of gay marriage in 2014, which led to the Hitching Post getting shut down. [0:20:59] the big famous wedding venue there in Coeur d'Alene. [0:21:03] And of course, you know, he's been holding water for the Coeur d'Alene establishment [0:21:08] that has been absolutely raping the working class up one side and down the other, [0:21:15] not only by having false and faulty assessments on big properties owned by corporations, [0:21:21] but, you know, like I said, with the Patriot Front stuff, [0:21:24] you saw how they handled Patriot Front, trampled on their rights, [0:21:27] committed prosecutorial misconduct, broke four different statutes in their police code, [0:21:34] whatever their internal policies are, and it eventually led to the city prosecutor, [0:21:41] Wes Summers, or Somerton, or whatever the heck his name was, getting let go because of [0:21:46] committed prosecutorial misconduct. So, voting does, in fact, matter. You can vote for good [0:21:54] people. And when you get good people in office, they do good things like bringing in immigration [0:21:59] and customs enforcement. Now let's take a quick look at how the media is portraying this. I haven't [0:22:05] watched this, so we will be watching this together, but this is from your local liberal television [0:22:10] station. Of course, there are no conservative television stations in North Idaho. You're [0:22:15] basically watching it. You're watching it. This is as close you're going to get to a conservative [0:22:19] of TV in North Idaho. But let's see what KXLY has to say about this partnership with ICE. And of [0:22:27] course, you'll remember this is coming from Spokane, where they have been having protests, [0:22:32] sit-ins, and shutting down the ability for ICE to carry out deportations in the city of Spokane. [0:22:39] So let's take a quick look here. The Post Falls Police Department entered a formal agreement with [0:22:46] U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, or ICE. [0:22:49] They're the first city in Idaho to work with ICE in this capacity, [0:22:53] and locals are having mixed reactions. [0:22:55] Sunny Day has more on the change. [0:22:58] This new program referred to as 287G, [0:23:01] federally trained select officers on ICE protocols [0:23:04] until the Department of Homeland Security grants them official authority [0:23:07] to carry out immigration enforcement tasks. [0:23:10] Once officers receive that authority, [0:23:11] they can execute specific federal immigration duties, [0:23:14] such as accessing federal databases, enforcing holds, and serving administrative warrants. [0:23:20] These officers can perform these duties under remote supervision from ICE [0:23:24] rather than the agency needing to be there on site. [0:23:27] Some locals feel this change is a step in the right direction. [0:23:30] I believe that it will be a positive one. [0:23:33] I mean, if it is enacted the way it is intended, [0:23:38] I believe that the joint cooperation between state, federal, and city law enforcement will do what it was designed to do, and that's to take care of the citizens. [0:23:53] Others are concerned this program will bring more harm than good. [0:23:57] In a sense, it breaks a lot of people's freedoms, and also I feel like in a sense it'll be very disruptive and destructive over a period of time. [0:24:07] The Post Falls Police Department said this agreement allows them to work more effectively with federal partners to remove dangerous individuals from the community. [0:24:15] The mayor of Post Falls said the city is proud to continue their partnership with federal law enforcement to keep the city safe. [0:24:23] In Post Falls, sunny day, 4 News Now. [0:24:26] Well, there you go. [0:24:29] They're like trying to make it out that, oh, some people in the community aren't very excited about this. [0:24:34] Baloney. [0:24:35] We love it. [0:24:36] We love it. And as a matter of fact, Mayor Westland was greeted by the community the other day with thunderous loud applause as he was in the Post Falls parade the other day with his whole family. [0:24:53] Look at this. Look at this guy. Great guy. [0:24:57] Love to see it. Love to see good leaders in office that are responsive to their voter base. [0:25:04] They are doing what they were elected to do. I mean, is it that difficult? No, it's not that [0:25:12] difficult. It's just a matter of like getting off your ass and getting involved, being involved, [0:25:17] vote, show up. And by the way, the midterm elections, the primaries are more important [0:25:24] than the national elections. Like if you, if you, dear listener, dear viewer, dear friend, [0:25:29] If you told me that you were never going to vote in a federal election ever again, I'd say good for you. Great. As long as you vote in every single local election. It's very simple. What happens in your backyard has more impact on your life than what happens in Washington, D.C. [0:25:51] Granted, there's a lot of things that have an impact on our backyard, like, you know, the war in Iran, for example, and gas prices. [0:25:58] But there's only so much we can do about that. [0:26:01] But locally, we can do all kinds of that. [0:26:03] Imagine if Coeur d'Alene had a half-decent mayor. [0:26:06] Imagine if Debbie Loftman had won. [0:26:08] We'd be seeing Coeur d'Alene signing up with ICE as well. [0:26:11] And you'd also see a lot of other things change, too. [0:26:14] Like, I don't know, Pride in the Park might not happen anymore if you had a decent mayor, you know? [0:26:20] but instead instead no we're stuck with these zog puppets in charge of Coeur d'Alene [0:26:29] like I said specifically Dan Gookin who's at who's going to do nothing absolutely nothing [0:26:34] for the community so just watch just continue to watch over the next four years over the next three [0:26:39] years as Mayor Westland in Post Falls is going to knock it out of the park and the mayor in Coeur [0:26:46] Coeur d'Alene is going to suck. He's going to suck. By the way, the mayor in Coeur d'Alene was only elected by like 13% of the population. That's because people did not show up to vote. Something like, I think it was 35% voter participation. That sucks. And, you know, I'm not like the biggest fan of democracy or whatever, but I would absolutely support populism over whatever corporatist baloney they're doing in Coeur d'Alene right now. [0:27:16] So that's what's going on in Post Falls. I think there was another article. There was another article about this. Let's take a quick look. This is from the Coeur d'Alene Pravda, the Coeur d'Alene Depressed by our friend Kay Thornbra. She's a cat lady, by the way. All of the authors at the Coeur d'Alene Press are cat ladies. I think they have toxoplasmosis. [0:27:41] Have you looked into toxoplasmosis? So cats have this like weird parasite that lives in their poop. And when cats poop, women are more susceptible to being infected by it. It's called toxoplasmosis gandhi. [0:28:00] why are we doing this? This is a weird rabbit hole, but toxoplasmosis, right? It's an infection [0:28:07] caused by a single cell parasite. People contact it by eating undercooked meat, consuming [0:28:12] contaminated water, or coming into contact with infected cat feces. And so when you start seeing [0:28:20] all of these women that have like a cat in their profile picture, and it's like a photo of them [0:28:26] with their cat. [0:34:55] So the farmers can use H2A because they come in during planting and then, say, through [0:34:58] the summer through harvest, because that's less than 10 months. [0:35:00] Right. [0:35:01] But legally under that program, you have to advertise that job locally. [0:35:05] So say we need an ag laborer at this price point, you know, 17 bucks an hour, 15 bucks [0:35:13] an hour, whatever it is. [0:35:15] Do you ask any of these guys? [0:35:17] They get zero or one and then they show up and they quit two days later. [0:35:21] They would love to have an H2A style system that's year round where they can go through [0:35:25] the U.S. Department of Labor, hire guys to come. [0:35:29] Anyway, you get the idea. [0:35:31] 50%, 50% of Idaho's agricultural labor, illegal aliens. [0:35:39] And every bill that we put into the legislature this year, [0:35:44] every single immigration bill got shot down [0:35:47] by Senator, I think it is Jim Guthrie and Kelly Anton. [0:37:01] The entire immigration debate is framed around benefits versus costs, but that framing hides who gets the benefits and who pays the costs. [0:37:08] The data makes this crystal clear. [0:37:10] The $500 billion wealth transfer from workers to corporations. [0:37:15] Harvard economist George Borja said that most cited immigration economists in the world has quantified exactly what I've described as happening in Idaho on the Kevin Miller show. [0:37:26] And the numbers are devastating. To generate the immigration surplus of $35 billion, immigration reduces the wages of Native Americans, that's white people, in competition with immigrants by an estimated $402 billion a year while increasing profits or the incomes of users of immigrants by an estimated $437 billion. [0:37:48] Please read those numbers again. [0:37:51] The total benefit of immigration to the American economy is $35 billion. [0:37:57] But to generate that modest benefit, $402 billion is transferred from American workers' paychecks to corporate profits. [0:38:06] The corporations gain $437 billion, the workers lose $402 billion, and the net benefit to the nation is a rounding error of 0.2% of GDP. [0:38:18] Borja's estimate of the immigration surplus in America is $50 billion annually. [0:38:23] By contrast, his estimate of the redistribution effect, [0:38:26] the amount redistributed from native workers to employers and consumers is about 10 times as much, $516 billion annually. [0:38:35] In other words, immigration currently causes a massive transfer of wealth from workers or labor to owners or capital. [0:38:44] Where have I heard this theory before? [0:38:45] It greatly exacerbates income inequality while producing a very modest net increase in wealth. [0:38:53] That's a half trillion dollar annual wealth transfer from working Americans to the corporations that hire immigrants, both legal and illegal. [0:39:01] And the illegal portion is even more exploitative because those workers have no legal protections. [0:39:08] Not that I really care. [0:39:10] The corporate subsidy model, privatize profits, socialize costs. [0:39:13] Sounds like Simon Dixon. [0:39:15] The Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis, not a conservative think tank, but the nation's central bank laid out the mechanism in plain language. [0:39:22] Low-skilled workers typically earn low wages and as such do not pay much in taxes, but they benefit from taxpayer-supported education services, medical services, income subsidies, and other means-tested benefits programs. [0:39:36] This results in low-skilled immigrant workers creating a net fiscal drain. [0:39:41] Such programs function as a taxpayer subsidy to firms that hire low-skilled workers and their customers. [0:39:48] Let that sink in. [0:39:49] St. Louis Fed is explicitly stating that Medicaid, public education, food stamps, and other social services function as a taxpayer subsidy to the corporations that hire low-wage immigrants. [0:40:00] Of course, if you've been watching Vincent James, if you've been watching America First, and all of us over in the dissident right for the past 10 years, you'd already know all of this stuff. [0:40:10] It's like very obvious that illegal labor drives down wages. [0:40:15] It drives up costs. [0:40:17] They are a net negative on society. [0:40:20] They are, they, this idea that if we were to kick out all of the illegals that we would [0:40:24] sink into a depression is just bullshit. [0:40:36] The losers are the American workers and taxpayers. [0:40:39] The Federal Reserve said this, not the Heritage Foundation, not fair, not a conservative commentator, the Federal Reserve. [0:40:45] This guy's a little wordy, isn't he? [0:40:47] How the scam works in practice. [0:40:48] Here's the step-by-step mechanics. [0:40:50] One, the hire. [0:40:51] A dairy farm, construction company, meatpacker, or hotel chain hires an undocumented worker at below market wages. [0:40:57] As one immigration lawyer documented, quote, big companies love undocumented labor because it's cheap and easy to exploit. [0:41:03] A worker's undocumented status means that they can't form or join unions. [0:41:07] They can't complain about safety violations. [0:41:09] They can't demand overtime pay and they can't report wage theft because doing any of those [0:41:14] things would risk deportation. [0:41:16] The employer knows that and exploits it. [0:41:18] Step two, the wage savings. [0:41:20] The employer pays the undocumented worker 15 to 35% less than they pay a legal worker [0:41:25] for the same job. [0:41:26] Borjas documented that undocumented workers earn, dude, we got to get some, uh, where's [0:41:33] an editor that we're documenting that undocumented workers earn roughly 10 to 25 percent less than [0:41:40] comparable legal workers even after controlling for education and experience for the employer the [0:41:44] wage discount across hundreds of thousands of workers translates to millions in additional [0:41:49] profits annually number three no benefits the provider provides no health care no retirement [0:41:54] benefits no workers compensation no paid leave a legal employee at a dairy farm might cost 65 [0:42:00] thousand dollars in total compensation while an undocumented worker doing the same job might cost [0:42:05] thirty five thousand dollars in cash wages with zero benefits the employer then saves thirty [0:42:10] thousand dollars per worker per year step four the cost shift the undocumented worker and their [0:42:15] family still need health care their children still need education and they still need to eat [0:42:19] so since the employer provides none of this the costs shift to emergency medicaid public schools [0:42:25] SNAP and food assistance, uncompensated emergency room care, law enforcement, criminal justice, [0:42:31] and of course, infrastructure. Then step five, lobbying. The corporations then use a fraction [0:42:35] of their labor savings to fund lobbying organizations like the Idaho Alliance for [0:42:40] a Legal Workforce that we analyzed at the start of this conversation to fight against E-Verify, [0:42:45] immigration enforcement, and any other policy that would disrupt their access to cheap labor. [0:42:50] They fund studies showing how, quote, devastating enforcement would be to the economy [0:42:54] while never mentioning the economic contribution they're defending is built on exploited labor and taxpayer-subsidized costs. [0:43:01] The Idaho example comes full circle. [0:43:03] This brings us right back to where we started the conversation. [0:43:06] The IALW study claimed that removing undocumented workers would cost Idaho $5.1 billion in GRP and 55,818 jobs. [0:43:18] But look at who commissioned the study. [0:43:20] The Idaho Dairymen's Association, whose member pay 90% foreign-born labor below what legal workers would cost. [0:43:30] The Idaho Home Builders Association, who also hires undocumented construction workers at reduced wages. [0:43:37] And the Idaho Farm Bureau, whose members pay farm workers' wages that require taxpayer-funded food assistance and Medicaid to survive. [0:43:46] These are the same organizations that oppose E-Verify. [0:43:50] oppose immigration enforcement, and lobby Idaho's legislature to maintain the status quo while all Idaho taxpayers absorb the costs of public services for undocumented workers. [0:44:02] It is IACI and these same business interests that are the primary backers of Governor Brad Little, who is running for a third term. [0:44:11] This is an old article. [0:44:12] The governor who implemented Medicaid expansion, which provides health care to low wage workers whose employers won't want it funded by the same employers who benefit from not providing that health care themselves. [0:44:25] That was a little tough to follow, but whatever. [0:44:27] Let us not forget that it was Governor Little and Lieutenant Governor Bedkey who publicly supported Senator Guthrie's re-election, who, as committee chairman, sequestered three immigration bills in his desk drawer, desk drawer. [0:44:41] What are we writing this with the AI? [0:44:44] Passed legislative sessions so that they could not be voted on. [0:44:46] The Medicaid expansion now comes into sharper focus. [0:44:48] Those 93,000 adults on Medicaid expansion, 74% of whom are working, are disproportionately employed by the same industries, dairy, agriculture, construction, and hospitality that rely on cheap labor. [0:45:00] Medicaid expansion effectively allows these employers to provide no health insurance while taxpayers pick up the tab. [0:45:07] It's a direct subsidy from Idaho taxpayers to Idaho's largest employers. [0:45:12] The numbers nobody wants to talk about. [0:45:14] Immigration is a net drain on our economy. [0:45:16] Corporate interests reap the benefits of cheap labor while taxpayers pay the infrastructure [0:45:19] costs. [0:45:20] Yeah, we're getting it.
