Episode 172 — The Church, the State and the Israel Lobby — W/ Dr. Chuck Baldwin

Seven months into a war no one voted for, the American pulpit has mostly nothing to say. Pastor Chuck Baldwin does.

Dr. Chuck Baldwin is the founder-pastor of Liberty Fellowship in Kalispell, Montana, and was the Constitution Party's presidential nominee in 2008 and its vice-presidential nominee in 2004. Before Montana he spent thirty-five years pastoring Crossroad Baptist Church in Pensacola, Florida, a congregation of more than fifteen hundred. He studied at Thomas Road Bible Institute, holds two doctorates of divinity, and has written on submission to government, on the right of Christians to bear arms, and for decades in a syndicated weekly column. He came up inside American evangelicalism and now spends much of his ministry arguing against what it has become.

On this episode of The Backlash, Dave Reilly sits down with Pastor Baldwin to draw the line between Christians who confess the kingship of Christ and the Evangelical Zionism that has, for two generations, delivered American blood and treasure to another nation's objectives. They take up the influence of a foreign government on American foreign policy, the wars fought on its behalf since the 1980s, and the one now grinding through its seventh month against Iran. They ask why Congress will not reclaim the war powers the Constitution gave it, and what a church owes a country whose leaders have stopped asking permission. And they look at where American politics goes from here, and what the proper relation between church and state has to be if there is to be anything left worth governing.

Pastor Baldwin has recently called in print for the removal of the President over this war. He will be asked to make that case here.
