Episode 178 — Bitcoin, Palestine & the Fight for Property Rights w/ Saifedean Ammous

Show notes

Who owns your land—and who controls the value of your money?

In Episode 178 of The Backlash, Dave Reilly is joined by Saifedean Ammous, Palestinian economist, internationally bestselling author of The Bitcoin Standard, and economic adviser to El Salvador’s National Bitcoin Office under President Nayib Bukele.

Saifedean makes the case that the conflict between Israel and Palestine cannot be understood without confronting the history of dispossession and the denial of Palestinian property rights. We discuss Zionism, the Nakba of 1948, Deir Yassin, and why he argues that defending private property requires applying the same principles to everyone.

From there, we turn to Bitcoin, the history of money, and Saifedean’s argument for separating money from the state. Why does he remain confident despite Bitcoin’s price swings? What does inflation do to a family’s savings? And how might money beyond the control of central banks change the balance of power between individuals and governments?

We also examine the U.S. debt burden, Treasury yields, the economic costs of the Iran war, Europe’s energy problems, and China’s role in global manufacturing. Saifedean explains his sharp break with Javier Milei and challenges the idea that Argentina’s policies represent a consistent commitment to free markets.

At the center of the conversation: the right to own property, preserve the fruits of your labor, and build something lasting for the next generation.
