Episode 183 — Christ Is King! But What Does That Mean for American Politics? | Alex Petersen

What does “Christ is King” actually mean for American politics—and what happens when taking that claim seriously puts you at odds with the Republican Party?

On Episode 183 of The Backlash, Dave Reilly welcomes back Alex Petersen, the writer known as American Reform and newly promoted Managing Editor of Integrity Magazine. Having publicly revealed his identity, Alex is putting his own name and reputation behind his defense of the Catholic Faith and integral politics.

We’ll discuss his decision to step out from behind a pseudonym, what the Social Kingship of Christ means for public life, and how Catholic Social Teaching challenges the assumptions of modern American conservatism.

From abortion and the moral questions surrounding voting to Vivek Ramaswamy’s campaign for governor of Ohio, we’ll examine the tensions between religious conviction, political compromise, and party loyalty.

We’ll also explore the future of the Republican Party, the role of a new generation in political life, and what an effort to remake the GOP around Catholic Social Teaching would actually involve—from local organizing to leadership and public policy.

What is political power for? What principles should govern its use? And what would an American political order that acknowledges Christ as King look like in practice?

Join us for a conversation about faith, courage, political responsibility, and the common good.
